The Road To Faith

Our very lives as believers is based on Faith. We become born again by believing in Jesus (Romans 10:9,10). It appears that to receive answers to prayers also all that is needed is faith. It is the key that opens the door for answered prayers. Jesus said this in connection with faith…

“For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Mark‬ ‭11:23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Jesus used the mountain to depict an impossible situation. Even as an example, this mountain can be considered a literal one; There is certainly no limit to God’s power. Now, the conditions to moving the mountain were; to speak to it (which is to pray) and believing without doubt that the mountain will be removed. It is amazing to notice that, the request is not for the mountain to move, in which case it could move just a few meters from its original position. The request is actually for the mountain to be removed! Such is the power of God, there will always be sufficient evidence if it is God at work.

How is Faith built?

We all pray as believers, but, do we always have the kind of faith that is required to receive an answer? Below, I have by the grace of God outlined a few ways by which we can cultivate the faith needed for a miracle. In no particular order;

I am sorry to begin with this one, because it is not a nice one. I however believe that there is someone going through trying times now. This is for such a person. Certain problems cause an anger that builds up faith.

Sometimes certain problems may came our way to test our faith and belief in the word.

Consider the woman with the issue of blood. This was someone who had been bleeding for twelve years (Mark 5:25-34). Blood has a stench, and there were no proper sanitary materials like we have today. At the time also, women having their period were separated from everyone else for seven days (Leviticus 15:19), till the period was over. So most definitely, this woman was smelling and possibly weak from losing so much blood. She may have lost all her friends too, since she was constantly separated.

Her sufferings built so much faith, she only needed to touch Jesus’ cloth. Many of us go through some problems for so long. The problem lasts as long as we can get angry to act in faith.

Since no physicians had been able to help her and all her money had run out, Jesus was her only chance at getting better. It was to her, “a now or never situation”, and she gave it all that was left of her. Remember she was separated, so she could not be seen talking to Jesus. The only way possible, steal her way and touch him as he passed by.

The Word:

God’s words are capable of increasing our faith. Even in real life, the more you understand something and how it works, informs your level of belief in it. The more we listen to the Word of God whether at church, on the radio, on television or a recording, we are on our way to increasing our faith.

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans‬ ‭10:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Here is the reason why we must guard what we hear. And it applies also to music, yes please. If you wish to find some Godly spiritual music, visit Wisdom Treasures the blog, on twitter and Facebook. We have a monthly music feature we call #OnMyPlaylistRightNow. You will find some Godly music you will love. You can thank me later.

The woman with the issue of blood had also heard about Jesus. She had been told about the kind of miracles Jesus had performed. She knew about the mad man of Gadara (Mark 5:1-13), how Jesus healed the man with leprosy (Mark 1:40-45) and the paralyzed man (Mark 2:1-12). All she had heard, made her believe Jesus was capable of healing her.

Prayer has become almost synonymous to saying a few words and ending with “amen”. It actually goes beyond that. Prayer is supposed to be a conversation; you speak to your Heavenly Father and he speaks back to you. You can get more information on this, from “That My Father May Hear Me – Part I“.

“But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,” Jude‬ ‭1:20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Try to pray longer than you normally would. Make time for this, so that you are not in a haste to finish. Don’t be in a hurry to ask for any need, only desire to be in the Father’s presence. If you run out of words, just worship. If you can speak in tongues, this is the time to do it. Like the verse says, you will be building up your faith.

A fruit gift

God has many gifts for his children. His gifts are far more precious than any gift a man can afford. Jesus is God’s first gift to us. Our willingness to accept him opens the door for even more gifts. One of such gifts is the Holy Spirit through whom we can get the gift of faith. So faith is one of God’s many gifts to us, his children.

When the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in the children of God, it’s characteristics are exhibited through them. Naturally, a certain level of faith will not be attainable by the regular Christian.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Galatians 5:22

May we all find faith when we need it most, and may no problem force us to find faith by any means.

God bless.
